BJFE Blueberry, Comparisons?

I've been using one for a couple months now, and still like it very much. One feature that sets it apart is that it has a "progressive" distortion...you can play lightly with the pedal on, and actually get little or no effect. The harder you play, the more OD you get. It does have a warm, tubey sound to it, but can also bite without being fuzzy. It does, however, seem to color your tone somewhat, adding to the mids somehow. If you are willing to pay and wait for one, get on the list at Custom Sounds.

Tried Blueberry for couple of days. Although it sounded good on its own it did not do the trick in band context. I compared Blueberry with Cream Pie, Bassdrive, Moody Hjärt Müller and Polish love. I could get really similar sound from CP but with more presence that helps to cut through in mix. Blueberry is indeed dark sounding and in our band context it was buried too much in mix.

There's no doubt that in a mix the Blue Berry gets a little buried. That is almost always a death knell with pedals/basses/amps/cabinets for me, but I generally use mine to carpet bomb during heavier passages, adding girth and weight rather than cut.

I really need to try a Cream Pie one of these days.

In this context, how did the Hjärt Müller compare? (I'm intrigued by those, as Moody builds an excellent sounding Fuzz.)

I have to say that Hjärt Müller really surprised me. It did not sound that marvellous alone but it shines in band mix. Totally different beast than Blueberry but I (and my bandmates) liked it better. Müller can go from mild OD to full blast and it worked well with Cream Pie. Müller`s tone knob (Klang) is also great fun. For example extreme klang settings gave me pick-style-distortion-klang although I did not use pick.

Thanks for that mini review! Sounds as if the Hjärt Müller is worthy of consideration, if I ever start looking for an overdrive.

The first Bluberry clip sounded really good, but it's hard to get a handle on it without a clean clip to get a sense of what it's doing to the signal. Also, the second clip sounds essentially exactly like the first. It's not that I don't appreciate clips, I really do. I think it's awesome that you've done this. I just would like to get a better handle on what it's capable of.
