I have a Peavey 2x10 tvx with a blown out Sheffield. I thinking about instead of replacing the Sheffield for $60 that I might just spend $150 and buy a couple of Scorpions because they can handle more power. Has anyone ever done this or have positive/negative feedback on Scorpions vs. stock Sheffields?

Also, does anyone know if the cabinets crossover would be affected by the speaker change. They can handle more power, but they are at the same ohm.

Bro, just get an exact replacement. I dont wanna go into the details atm, but, essentially, your cabinet is designed around your speakers. Such is every commercial bass cabinet. To throw another set of tens in there, without making sure the thiele-small parameters match, is begging for bad tone. Google Thiele-small parameters for some afternoon reading.

Yeah man, it's certainly not as sporting an answer as I'd prefer, but the overwhelming odds do suggest that your 210 would sound best with direct replacements. Have you priced a re-cone on the speaker? If you haven't somehow melted the magnets, or otherwise mechanically destroyed it beyond the cone, you may save some cash getting cone replaced locally.

I haven't looked into cone replacement, but $60 isn't that bad for a speaker right? I've bought tons of voice coils for P.A. speakers in the past and they run $25 or $30. What's $60 for the whole speaker.

I dropped 4 Emminence BP-102's in a Peavey 410TX cabinet when the stock speakers started to go and it was a drastic improvement. The BP-102's have a 6.2mm linear excursion (the distance the voice coil moves in and out). It is a really great sounding cabinet. I just wish it weighed in at about 40 lbs!!

That isn't the same cabinet as the OP's 210TX. So your results and his can't be directly compared.

It's like saying you put fat tires on your Ford and I should do the same on my Ford, even though yours is a pickup truck and mine is an Escort. Just because they're both Peavey products doesn't make them compatible with the same speakers.

He may have a different cabinet, but it comes with the same stock Sheffield 10" speakers. That may not be a fair 'direct' comparison, but it's not too far off to say that it could be a decent upgrade for me too.
