Hey I have a Peavey 35 Watt, 16.7v RMS 8 OHMS guitar amp I have been useing for my bass (actualy sounds pretty good. lol Recently one of my roomates kids ramed something in the pack and tore the speaker to hell so I need to replace it. I have been thinking I have a 12 inch sub the same size as the speaker that is in there. Is there a difference? Can I just put it in there? Thanks for the help in advance. Play on brothers.

is there a reason why you posted it in bass setup and repair too? Amps would be the place for it... the box probably wont be tuned for a bass speaker. but since you are using a guitar amp you probably dont care too much about your tone. Just make sure its an 8 ohm speaker and you are set.
Yes a 12" "sub" speaker will not have the full frequency response and VERY likely the amp's cabinet will not match the speakers needs. Most likely it will sound pretty bad.

The sub sensitivities are usually in the mid/high 80's, the MI bass speaker sensitivities in mid/high 90's.
It will produce a sound though if the impedances match (lots of 1&2 Ohm subs out there), but since the tuning is out of whack as B-string said, a damage to the speaker is possible.

Well, it likely won't sound very good, but if the ohms match up, give it a try. At low volumes you should be fine either way. But, as others have stated, it probably won't sound amazing.

parts express and mcm electronics are good sources for "just need a speaker" situations. find something cheap, with 4 or 5mm xmax, with a frequency response like 40 or 50 to 3000 or so, over 95 dB, and it might not really sound too bad. pick up the free win ISD and measure the inside of the box. model away until something turns up a fairly horizontal spl plot.
is it an open back cab? if so, just chuck whatever in it: it probably won't sound too awesome no matter what, but it'll work.
is there a connector for an external cab on the amp? if there is, and it says something like "8 ohm minimum" right above or below this connector, you could disconnect and tape off the speaker leads and use (probably) a 4 ohm bass cab (if it says 16 ohm minimum, it probably would have to be an 8 ohm cab). i'd bet this would sound better than any other option (including the one I just mentioned). good luck!
