blown speaker???? weird!

so i've isolated the problem to the speaker cab....amp is fine, bass is fine, cables are fine.....

it's not farting out, and the cones aren't torn, but there's some distortion when i hit certain notes. also, sometimes the volume will cut out, and the bass frequencies cut out dramatically. when this happens, i'll thump a note real hard and it kind of 'jars the sound' back into place. but that doesn't solve the slight distortion problem. thoughts?

Open it up and check the wiring. Make sure there are no loose connections.

Sounds more like a wire is hitting into the speaker cone than a broken speaker. But I have heard speakers with broken voice coils that work and sound distorted, so what you do is GENTLY push into the cone with even pressure around the dustcap, and feel for rubbing. If it's smooth, it's fine. If you feel rubbing, it's not.

I'd say there's more than one cause to these symptoms.

IME faint distortion on certain notes is almost always the result of an air leak or loose cab panels/braces. The grille and/or the ports and the badges can also produce all sorts of rattles.

As for the sound partially cutting out that can be remedied with a "jolt" over and over again, sounds a lot like a magnet fragment or other ferromagnetic debris in the air gap. That used to be pretty common on mishandled ceramic magnet drivers, I don't have enough experience about NEO's to say how likely it is with the different motor design.

Do rule out the cold solder joints and other wiring problems first though. Much cheaper.

IMHO, with 4 nights a week for 2+ years, the cab has probably paid itself by now... even with the NEO price hike .
