Blown Tweeter??

I am having a weird problem with my 410 combo. When I play from C#-E (on the A string), there is a buzzing sound. The rest of the notes on the fretboard sound just fine.

I went through the cab and rescrewed everything. The amp is overall very quiet and sounds good besides those three notes. It's very strange!

Thanks for any help!

Try positioning the cab differently or try it in a different room?

Those frequencies around the B are "exciting" something. If the cab hardware is tight, it could be a loose tube or something else in the amp sitting on top of it. Sometimes it can be something else in the room entirely.....having you chasing your tail for a while.

Turn up the volume and crank the treble all the way up....WITHOUT PLAYING....put your ear up to the tweeter. You shohld hear some amount of normal hiss coming from it having the treble cranked and volume high.

That's normal. Those frequencies could also be rattling a loose solder on the filter board in the cab.

You say the rattling comes from all the speakers, not just the tweeter? Try setting your amp on a pillow or something away from the cab when playing it. If the rattle stops, you may have a bad pre tube or other connection in the amp.

I just plugged the amp up to an ext speaker, and I did not have the same problem.

Still a problem in the cab then. Touch a 9 volt battery to the tip and sleeve of the speaker plug you'd normally plug in the amp. You may have a blown driver that's just flopping about in sympathy with the ones that are working. A B might be the note that sends it far enough to slap the grill. All the drivers should move in or out together, if one doesn't move, it's blown, or has it's wires loose/disconnected.

I love it when a plan comes together...
