Blue mike, Presonus interface, and Garageband on a Mac

Well, that was stupid. Yeah. I hook up the mike and the Presonus box to the iMac. I open Garageband and create a new audio track. The sound indicators show that the mike is picking up my voice but the record function just does not work. It runs, the index line moves across the screen but nothing is recorded.

Have you successfully used other hardware with GarageBand? Or is this your first time playing with it? If you're seeing the meters inside GarageBand when you speak/sing, then your hardware is fine, and you just need a bit of practice with GarageBand's controls.
that beer and coconut works really well. You are exactly right. I spent a lot of time on the phone with the guy who sold me this stuff. He kept telling me, "Ralph, your equipment if fine, you are another story." Well, this is my first time and I had one of the gain controls turned all the way down. I actually didn't realize it was the gain for the mike. It was actually recording at an imperceptible level and the clue was, ta da, the meters. Thank you very much for getting involved. It made me feel very good about this site. Cheers.

Hey Reed, I am an older Vietnam Vet, disabled, who is learning to play baritone ukulele (probably will move to guitar eventually---or add guitar). I have a sometimes good, sometimes bad voice and I bought some sound gear to try to set up a way to practice and get a better voice. Pretty primitive really but it should be fun.
