Bluebeard fuzz pedal

As stated before, get a GGG-tuned. No one will tell the difference, except you. The difference is NEGLIGIBLE. If you need an exact copy, change the resistor and cap to match the BB specs.
It's just a muff...

One shows up in the classifieds every three months here. There's a Fuzzrocious GGG-Tuned Muff in the classifieds right now on HC if you're interested in a pre-built GGG-Tuned muff.

I don't think anyone here is actually dissing the (blatantly aweseme) pedal, just pointing out the easier option!

About the differences between the two, did you try them side by side, same room/bass/amp? Also, you could probably put 2 Bluebeards next to each other and they would sound different due to the tolerances of the components, so any slight differences could be down to factors such as that.

Edit: If this bluebeard pedal is too hard to aquire, il probably look into the El Grande bass fuzz. Troy Sanders from mastodon has both these pedals...if only i knew which one he recorded blood mountain with. They both sound good....

If you do a search for the bluebeard here you can find some information on how just using the bluebeard won't get you to the Blood Mountain tone by itself.

Not quite...I am comfortable saying that I wouldn't pay over $100 for a BB.

I guess we need a "Blue Beard - Fight It Out" sticky...

All I'm saying, and as others have said before, is that an unpainted, scribbled on, long-build-timey, two-component-different-than-a-GGG-tuned-BMP muff is not worth $150.

There are plenty of people on this forum, DIYStompboxes, TGP, and FSB that can build the Blue Beard since it's a Big Muff with easily-traceable parts...and again, no one can tell a difference but you. The Blue Beard will, as stated above, sound different from model to model and will sound different with different basses, heads, cabs, and recording equipment.

Do I love muffs? Yes, sir.
But for $150, I'd better get a fast build, good communication, and mods or a paintjob that makes it worth the money.

A lot of his tone has to do with the mastering on the record (this is from what vegas-I think- was saying when he was playing around with one), and the BB straight into your amp won't sound exactly like it.

Having said that, there's certainly nothing wrong with wanting to get that tone. Blood Mountain is a fantastic record.

Well, actually, Mastodon's whole catalog is pretty awesome.

EDIT: Ok, I read your other post, and on Colony of Birchmen, that sounds more like a Blue Box than anything else. At least, through my laptop speakers ;)
Any number of higher gain muff clones should get you pretty close to Troy's tone, though.

Sonny is almost impossible to get hold of. I messaged him on myspace and emailed him countless times and never got a reply.

Finally i brought one second hand off of gygrx.
I love this pedal, one of my favourite fuzzes. I got to try it next to a friends GGG tuned muff and they are different. I prefer the BB, to my ears it was a bit more middy and more gainy.
best of luck finding one.
