Double Bass Board under Contra cab

I've noticed that my Contra EX settles into a carpeted floor, enough so that carpet fibers poke through the grill on the bottom.

Somebody here posted awhile back that they have a board that goes under the cab when playing on carpeted floors. I like the idea because it keeps the cab working as a downfiring woofer.

I stuck a piece of plywood under my cab this morning and it seemed to make the sound clearer than when it's just going into the carpet fibers, yet it has more bottom than when propping it up with the little stick underneath.

Anybody chime in on how they've done this?

I tried using an Auralex Gramma under the Contra a few times. But it did seem rather stupid (I think Bob G. phrased it with much more diplomacy and tact when he commented on the idea ...) to lug around something with a footprint five or six times as big as the Contra itself for said purpose.

I believe I've read about several people doing much like you've outlined, with the plywood dealy.

Okay...it's a slow night for a change. I found a piece of 3/8" plywood in the garage and traced the cab's shape. Cut it out with a jigsaw and smoothed out the bumps with a rasp. When I find another slow time, I'll spray it black.

I think that the little board tightens things up and, of course, keeps the carpet fibers off the woofer. Maybe it would do something similar to use the little screw-in cab lifter, but I think this should produce more bottom end by keeping the cab down to the floor.
