A lot of time an effort has gone into the design and manufacture of the Bob Daisley Signature Series Bass. "The Black Beauty" was born at the Utopia Custom Shop, Italy.

There are still a few minor changes to be made before it's official release, so until then here are a couple of photos. Again, please remember this is the prototype "Black Beauty".

Body - Light Swamp Ash
Neck - Maple
Fretboard - Black Ebony (MOP signature inlay @ 12th fret)
Pickups - Magnetics Pickups
Bridge - Hipshot
Price - N/A
Release Date - N/A

Different from what I was expecting, given Bob is a P man through and through. Nice to see something different, though.

Do you think Sharon is already working on swindling him out of his royalties for this, too? :hiding:

It will probably be a surprise to a few people, but a good one I'd say...!!! If it sounds as good as it looks (which I'm sure it will) it's a killer bass.

Bob is certainly one of the best bassists of our time. And would have to be the best bassist to ever come out of Australia, without a doubt.

I can't think of another musician from this country who has worked successfully with so many legends. Ronnie James Dio, Ritchie Blackmore, Cozy Powell, Randy Rhoads, Gary Moore, to name but a few.

Sliding pole pieces... Now that's very interesting... So that's the Gibson Grabber principle but with more flexibility !!! Interesting indeed ! :D

And isn't this an interchangeable pickgard/pickups/electronics assembly ? :hyper: Like... just pop the other out, slide the other in and VOILÀ !!! ?????? :confused:

Bob is way up there on my list of bass players I admire, always have. And he's as down to earth as they get, which is quite something also.

You seem to be well aware of that project... are you working for that custom shop that's building this thing ??? :confused:

That shop looks expensive... Will this be affordable ? :eek:

I don't work for Utopia Custom Shop, and I'm not involved in the project in any way. :D A price won't be available until the Official Release, remember, so far this is a look at the prototype, there are still a few small minor changes to be made. They won't be cheap, they won't be coming off a production line, each one made to order, but the price won't be through the roof either.

Sliding pole pieces, yes..!! and interchangeable pickguard assembly, yes..!! :D

Different tones are found on different areas of a string, as you probably already know. So having sliding pole pieces, really means you can change a lot more of the bass sound other than just using a tone control, amp settings, pick or fingers. More options, and thats never a bad thing.:D

Thank you, I already knew that.
But what I meant is; do you know exactly what it is. Are they really sliding polepieces and how does it work? Where do the windings go?
I can't see how this pickup would work technically. Windings need to be around the polepieces somehow.

I'll have to look into it for specifics, as soon as I find out I'll let you know.:D

I looked at this thread thinking it would be just another "P-bass with X color pickguard" signature bass like so many. Glad to see it is not, even if it's not the bass he is known for playing all these years. I want one already. Once it is available, how would one that does not speak Italian go about ordering one, if the builder even ships to the US?
