Bob Raymond/Green Eyed Lady

I heard Sugarloaf’s Green Eyed Lady on my radio returning from my morning jog, and I think I’ve got the first third of the extended version down (which seems to be similar to most of the remaining 4 minutes). The bass line just popped out at me after passively hearing it all of my life, and I had to get it down.

As for the bassist, Bob Raymond, there is precious little info regarding his gear or career other than he appears to have left music and become an IT consultant, and a photo in an image search shows him playing a Rick w/pick in a studio shot later in life. This is about the TB extent of him from what I’ve searched: Sugarloaf.. The Band

Any fans with a little more knowledge of the man, his gear, or any other Sugarloaf trivia?

I have always loved "Green-Eyed Lady"...very progressive Pop-Rock. The rest of that album, not so much.

Bob Raymond, former bassist for Sugarloaf, has passed away after a 7-month battle with lung cancer. He was 69 years old.

Raymond joined the band in 1968 when they were called Chocolate Hair. The band was signed to Liberty Records and changed to Sugarloaf just before their debut album, which scored the hit “Green-Eyed Lady”. The song peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard chart in 1970 and put them on bills alongside The Who, Deep Purple, and more.

Raymond is credited on all four of the band’s releases: Sugarloaf, Spaceship Earth, I Got A Song, and Don’t Call Us, We’ll Call You. While there was a fair amount of personnel changes, the bassist left the group for good in 1975. He was inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame with Sugarloaf in 2012.

My buddy has a trio and this is one of the many tunes he sings
and plays bass on. I do envy his talent.
