body cracked, what should I do?

that's why I was thinking about just gluing it myself if it would work or just replace the body if it wont. I'm trying to spend as little as possible to get it running since it is only a squire. I am also missing a couple parts too so I will have to spend a little on it already (I am looking at only about $60 in parts if I don't replace the body)

For a freebie like that I would glue it myself. Gently spread open the crack and use a small paint brush to spread the glue over as much surface area as possible on both sides of the crack. Clamp and wipe off excess glue.

yeah before I have a shop do the work I would just buy a new body off ebay for $50-$100. I think I would rather take on the task on myself since it is a squire and not worth more then $100-$200 for the complete guitar used.

here is another dumb noob question, what would happen if I just clamped the body instead of putting it in a caul? also what do the cauls look like?

The caul is a mirror image of the curves of the guitar. Imagine that the guitar body is made in a mold. (Actually, that is the way acoustic guitar bodies are made.) If you cut the mold lengthwise you would have two cauls perfectly mated to the sides of the guitar. The opposite sides (outsides) of the caul are flat and parallel to one another. This permits the clamp feet to set flat on both cauls, maximizing the amount of force available from each clamp. The caul also spreads the force from each clamp over a wide area. If there are no cauls, each clamp acts at a very narrow point.

so I have the body glued and in clamps, I wanted to get some filler to fill the scratch and smooth out the body. is there a flat black wood filler I can use so it matches the flat black primer I want to paint the guitar?
