Boiling Elixers

I know this question has been asked on TB, but to my knowledge not properly answered. Can you boil them? or does the coating come off. Alcohol treatment overnight takes the coating off as I've read.

Wonders if the coating might melt from boiling if it doesnt come off. LOL.

What would be the point in boiling elixer strings? The only thing boiling strings does is remove some of the dirt and oil from your fingers that has gotten into the windings of the string. With elixer strings as long as the coating is still there no dirt or oil from your fingers has gotten in there to kill the tone of the string, therefor boiling them would be pointless. Soaking strings in alcohol is for the same purpose, it just removes the oils better.
