Haven't touched the Flute Suite, but I have performed Bolling's Cello Suite, about 20 years ago. Bolling wrote some things oddly, especially in the bass part, and it was tough for the ensemble to figure a few things out. We had no recording of the piece, either. Very late in the game we finally got one, and suddenly it all made sense.
In that bass part are many sections with running eight notes. Bet your part has some too. I initially read them as swing eight notes. Oh so wrong! It's actually a double-time swing feel, where the eights actually feel like quarters. It was much easier to play once we figured that out.
My advice for you is to find a recording of it, which should be VERY easy these days. (OH LOOK, there are several recordings on YouTube!!) Listen to it while looking at your part. Don't listen too many times, but enough to understand what parts should be played in "4" or "8", or what is swing or straight. Then, just practice on your own. Strive for good feel, good time, and good intonation! (yes, those are the basics, but so many people can't make the simple stuff happen.) Listen to what everyone else is doing, and let it inform the interpretation of your part. "Big Ears" are always helpful.
