Bongo5 or Spector Rebop5?

I am in the market for a 5 string and i've narrowed it down to these two choices.

I'm looking for a bass with as much tonal variety as possible. I will be stringing it EADGC

I don't care about the cosmetics of the bass so telling me not to choose the bongo because it's weird looking won't cut it ;)

Which would you choose and why? Much appreciated!

That's a tough decision.

Bongo gets props for being made in the USA. I still can't get past the basswood thing though, but the bass sounds great.

Spector Rebop gets props for still being a Spector, even if it's not made by Stuart. It's just the most comfortable body style ever created, absolutely classic. It uses better woods for sure.

If it were me? Spector. Body style, tonewoods, and superior bridge design would win me over. I can't stand the 'scrape the string through the little metal hole in the back' bridge design.

I get what you mean about the basswood body, but it sounds great, so I don't see a problem with it.

I've owned 4 Spector's and 2 Bongo's. For me the Bongo bass is also designed for comfort and was just as comfortable as the 4 Spector's that I owned. For me the bolt on Spector's were the most comfortable feeling. The neck thru 5 I had seemed to fit me wierd. :hmm:

Never had a Bongo but I owned a Spector Rebop 4 string. Best looking and most comfortable bass I have owned. It was a bit too modern sounding for me so I sold it. Wish I would have kept it and just put different pickups/preamp in it. I'm sure the Bongo is a great bass too but Iv'e never played one. Tough choice.

About 20 years ago, I a NS-5, and it was a fantastic bass. I have Rebop 5 coming in May and I am looking forward to it. Bongos have incredible electronics, and certainly more versatile sonically.
If you are a Spector fan, you will still prefer the Spector. If not, the Bongo is worth a shot.
