There was a limited version with a second foot switch control for the Fifth Gear and a top mounted gain control. Why they don’t make that version all the time, I don’t know because the Fifth Gear is a great OD.

If you really want to throw money at the problem though grab the TC Spark. They're very inexpensive new, have pretty flexible eq options, afford really great sounding overdrive sounds AND can boost or cut your signal level.

This is great, looked at their webpage, product looks like exactly what I've been planning to build eventually except my design has four inputs. But you know how 'eventually' is. Get the credit card - wait ... $300?? Never mind.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I ended up with the SONICAKE Sonic Super Master, and it does exactly what I was looking for, and only $30.
