Bootsy Collins with James Brown

Totally different vibe.

This vid shows Bootsy laying down some righteous 16th note finger funk ala Jaco/Rocco. I like his Funkadelic stuff too, but remember - in this vid, Bootsy was what, 18 or 19?? Wow!

I would say they did the sixteenth note thing ala Bootsy, Jerry Jemmott or the guy who did Funky Broadway (can't remember his name), remember that clip is 1971, before Prestia and Pasorius had anything other than a regional impact.:bassist:

I agree. I was making the point to the person that I was answering that he wasn't doing what you would expect him to do on a P Funk gig. He did the percolating 16th note thing that fit perfectly with the style of JB, standing out while not stealing the spotlight. Not an easy trick to pull off!

Bootsy smokes on this track!

I always loved the story of how Bootsy & Co. became James's band....the old band attempted a mutiny & James goes down the hall of King Studios & grabs these young kids & takes 'em on the road!

And watch how every member of the band keeps one eye on James at all times, he was a harsh taskmaster.

Thanks for posting this - great stuff!
