ok, check out that vid, besides it being the most awesome bootsy vid ever...im guessing thats a mu-tron or a q-tron for the envelope filter..but what in the hell is that pants cream inducing fuzz he's using....anyone got the foggiest?

You see many space basses he used have more than 3 pick ups. even have 5 single-coil or precisions. These basses all have 3 output, and output the signal to 3 pedalboards that have diffrient effects (include envelope filters and fuzzs and delays and others ect.). That's really sweet and cool. Bootzilla is a tone monster.
I know he used Mu-Tron iii and Big Muff Pi at early when he made the "boosty" signature tone. Sometimes he used a MXR digtal delay. And nowdays he had some new toyz. Include Bixionic EXPANDORA reissue, EHX tube zipper and some others like q-tron and bass balls(said by the member of EHX).

ps, If you want to get his signature tone, get the fuzz, envelope filter, the delay and don't forgot to get a BOOSTY Funk-Star glasses. I have get one from ebay. It's super sweet. Kick ass!!!

i tried just before using my boss hm-2 heavy metal and bass balls..i can get pretty close with the hm-2..but i really need a q-tron

Get a Mutron - the HAZ reissues do a fairly close sound to the original (although, the new ones have a "DEPTH" control as opposed to the orignal's "GAIN" control - so you lose some of the dirt)

In the USA you can get them for around $225 delivered (as opposed to £280 UK here in England/Scotland - that's around the $550 mark! Aaagh!!!)

Higgie - me can't findee an original, so I'm grabbing a re-issue in the meantime. I have a mate who is gonna amend the circuit to incorporate the "Gain" function rather than the "Depth" one.

Also getting a couple of custom made valve units in th enext couple of weeks - 2 stage, dual valve overdrive/distortion unit, and a valve powered tremolo unit as well - should be nice!!

Kev - They come up frequently on eBay, that's where I got mine. Plus, for the amount we're charged over here for the re-issue, you can pick up an original from the States for not much more. In fact, I got mine for over £100 cheaper than they sell the Re-Issues new!

I hear the circuit is quite different from the original on the Re-Issue. When I tried one it didn't sound THAT good compared to the original I've now got, so having one modded could be a problem still.

I decided to just add that extra bit of cash to get the original and IMO - It was worth it.

How different? Well I'll tell you, the new one is digital yes a digital filter, now you've heard that go wash yourself in rubbing alcohol.

i might try a q-tron...my boss hm-2 is doin a pretty good job of that fuzz..and my mxr bass octave is doin alright too...just need to replace the bass balls

Yes I did watch the video.

It's hard to get Bootsy's sound because A) He has about 3 different outputs from his multi-pickup basses all going to different pedalboards and signal chains, and B) He's Bootsy

bassballs doesnt get anywhere near that

and it that video it looks to me he has 1 output and only 2 single coils?, i have seen the multiple output and pickup basses he's got..but that one looks pretty simple
