How do you know you don't want to be drunk if you haven't been drunk? I can tell you now: it's fantastic. I can dance like nothing on earth. But we all know, and you know, that you have been drunk. And wasn't it HORRIBLE! You embarrassed yourself didn't you, and now you're trying to forget those awful memories by denying the entire incident. Aren't you? Hmmmm? Come on, we won't tell.

Anyway I like a nice variety of drinks, and I choose them depending on the situation:

Classy night: Bombay Sapphire w/ lime & lemonade
Party: Jagermeister (I like it with coke, I don't care what you say)
Quietly drunk in the corner night: 42 Below Feijoa Vodka with Ch'i (herbal soft drink here in NZ, dunno where else it is sold) or with feijoa pulp.

After work drinks: Beer (Usually NZ beers, like Mac's copperhop ale), or a bottle of easy-to-drink red wine, a nice Merlot or something.

And I reckon Beamish is nicer than Guinness, though I prefer porters to stouts...James Squire (Aussie) make a great one!

Sometimes I drink other stuff, I try not to drink too much. I tend to black out.

Where do you draw the line? Is tipsy drunk? Or is 'drunk' only when your vision blurs, or when you vomit? Or is it only when you start calling ex-girlfriends up - because thats when I draw the line. I know my night is over when I get the cellphone out.

But I struggle to see a difference between drinking a few shots of tequila or drinking 10 shots of tequila. You'll not be fit to drive in either case, you'll still make different decisions, you'll still be more sociable. Your logic is lost on me. When I get drunk I don't become some sort of abusive monster, I just have a good time. My personal beliefs involve being nice to people, no judgements or predispositions, and alcohol does not change that. So I'm just interested in this personal beliefs thing.

Really? Well congrats, you've met your first. I really dig the taste of good tequila. If you think no one drinks tequila for the taste then I can only assume you've never had good tequila. To an extent tequila tasting is like wine tasting here in Texas.

Me neither but then again I've never drank a few shots of tequila at once. I'm sure there are people who can drink a few shots of tequila and not feel it though. In my case I typically limit my drinking to one drink. On occasion two drinks.

You seem to be judging my statement based on what YOU know of other people ("No one drinks tequila because for the taste."). Why don't you just take my word for it? I don't believe I have a reputation as a dishonest person here.

This is absolutely ridiculous and inane that you want to debate my own personal decisions for myself in the first place. These decisions don't affect anyone else (Except possibly those around me if I ever DID decide to get drunk!) so just lay off and do your thing and I'll do mine.

I can't even smell Southern Comfort without feeling ill, and my bad experience was 20 years ago. Plus I work in the hospitality industry, so I should be able to cope, but I just can't.

Alright, I'll hold my tongue on further comments. But I will say that I drink because I like the taste of what I am drinking, and for the fact that alcohol makes me a whole lot more sociable...if I am with drunk people and I am sober, that is when I get to be really bitter & mean. So it makes me friendlier and more inclined to dance.

On this new topic:

I can no longer drink Coruba, after an horrific experience about 6 years ago which involved a train.
I can, but don't, drink Captain Morgan after the hangover it gave me (hmmm a rum theme is emerging)
Carrying on with rum - Bacardi white rum makes me ill.
And I dislike the taste of tequila, if anyone hadn't noticed.

I had a bad experience with SC round about 20 years ago, I still won't touch the stuff, but the smell doesn't make me ill like it did until around 5 years ago.

I am a fan of Jack Daniels. No one I really know likes it that much, but for some reason I do. I also like Capt. Morgan's for house parties. If I'm feeling classy I'll have a scotch, usually it's Glennwood, pretty nice stuff.

For beer, I usually drink Icehouse, eventhough it sucks horribly. You can get really cheep cases of 22s of them around here though.

Have any of you had the Smirnoff beer? I swear it's Sprite Remix in a Smirnoff bottle.

Baileys and Starbucks in Winter, Gin and Tonic, Vodka-tonic, the rest of the year (three months in MI.!). White Russians are cool too! I must be weird but I hate beer, all my friends say if you drink it enough you'll develop a taste for it. Well I'm sure if you drank cow piss enough you'd develop a taste for it, too.


Oh, and Brad good for you! I know plenty of people whose whole lives have changed and not for the better because of one stupid drunk moment.

I had a screwdriver once, and not only did it make me never drink vodka again, but it actually put me off orange juice for a long time! Terrible tasting stuff...

In terms of Tequila, 1800 all the way. I'm also a fan of Southern Comfort, Crown Royal, and Captain Morgan. Even Wild Turkey gets me excited. Parrot Bay Coconut Rum is a great summer drink.

I CANNOT do vodka anymore. Taste aversion due to a NASTY sickness/hangover years ago. God, I can still feel the queasies!!!

And I agree that once the cell phone comes out to call an ex it's time to STOP! I've always said my cell phone and my e-mail program need a breathalyzer installed. No pass, no phone/e-mail. I've done downright ridiculous things after a good (bad?) drunk in that regard!!!

Oh well, don't take my word for any of the above. I'm a drunk (NOT an alcoholic) in training!
