Borrowing Cabinets..

So i need to borrow an amp from someone for a show tomarrow...

What should i say to bargain with the person?
Should i offer to pay, give free ticket, give a bass as collatoral, or what?

I need one soon, but i don't really know anyone with an Ampeg 810 thats in decent range for the show.
know any rental places in the fort worth area? or any for a cheap sale price? (TEXAS)

Hi.

I'd ask what he wants.

I haven't rented anything out lately, but 1-5% of the value/day is the normal going rate when commercially renting whole setups. Individual pieces, well about 5% I guess. + any taxes of course.

If You're comfortable with the collateral of a similar value, I don't think that I'd object, but money is always a GREAT motivator. A couple of free tickets on top of that wouldn't hurt one bit. The people in question have to trust each-other of course, but if the person lending the cab will attend the show, I wouldn't see no problem.

Once again last night, we provided the PA, stage and the bass rig to the first band and even though the harp player was a bit of a perfectionist pain as they usually are, the rest of the band was really grateful. That was enough for me.

Of course we are all bikers, so even if we don't know eachother, there's always the trust and sharing certain things is normal.

Regards
Sam

You say you need to borrow an amp and then you mention a cab... Do you need both?

You give one day notice and have a SPECIFIC cab in mind?

When/why did this need arise?

This is a pretty big deal you are asking someone to pony up to the bar for.

Tix to show, food & drink at the minimum.

You hump the gear, the owner shouldn't have to lift a finger.

Treat the gear like it's expensive. It is. Watch the ohms setting, volume, drinks and anything else that could potentially cause damage.

Are you gonna cover something/anything going wrong? With $$$. Not with an "oops, sorry?"

I don't know if I would do this for a stranger. A lot of time & $$$ went into my rig. Do you have $1,500-$2,000 in collateral?

Someone I know/trust can use it anytime & I always offer it for use to opening acts if I feel comfortable with their bassist. Not a jerk/punk. But a total stranger..?

Good luck.

My amp's in the shop. I borrowed one from one of the other bassists at church. He had a spare that fit me perfectly. If he couldn't have lent it, I would have asked my bass-playing uncle. Then the other church bassist. Then my other bass-playing uncle. Where are your bassist connections? They are important!

While he wouldn't make me pay to replace it if I broke it, I would fix it or pay for the repair.

if you dont have a real real good friend , your gonna have to rent something from a company . i wouldnt loan/rent any of my gear to a stranger or a non friend ... heck some of my friends i wouldnt do it for ... i think most of us wanna know why you have a gig and no gear ? not trying to beat you up ,,,, but .... its hard to hear your bass if you have nothing on the other end of your cable ....

wrong words from my end.

i still have my titan, but my Titan is too much for my HLF.
I ended up just playing since i woke up early to go practice and had no time to call, etc. Rig sounded good at practice, so i went with it.

I liked my sound, but i was drowned out a little bit.

now i'm looking to buy an 810, to add to the NV610 i'm getting in a few weeks!!! :hyper:

hope you worked something out

as a stroke of luck, i had an 810 at my house that i probably could've let you borrow on sunday, but i didn't hear anything back...it's being packed up this evening to head across state though

edit: i was typing as you responded...glad everything worked out--how was the gig?
