Was just using my Boss BR 864 recorder a few minutes ago. Then, without warning, the whole thing just went blank as if it had been turned off. Tried turning off and back on with both the AC adapter that came with it and with batteries. When I hit the power button, the "SENS" lights come on by the guitar/bass input and MIC input then just fade out. Any thoughts?

Boss BR 864 - No Power

No clue. If I may play the role of Captain Obvious for a moment:
- If possible, try a different 9V DC power supply. Most Roland/Boss gear uses their proprietary PSA-series power supplies. In my experience, they're very reliable, but short-circuits can and do happen on occasion.
- Try a set of fresh batteries.
Tried the factory reset to no avail. Have ordered another adapter that has the correct specifications - it hasn't arrived to try it yet. Bought a Boss PSA series adapter (Input 120v/Output 9v DC; 500 mA) locally and got the same results. Tried another Boss adapter with correct voltages/polarity and it did bring power to the unit but said "Power Down" on the screen. According to the manual, this is described as being a problem with the power supply. Tried the same adapter on some foot switches and it works just fine.

Well, gang...nothing worked with the BR864 so now I have a Zoom R8...have overcome a little of the learning curve...seems pretty user friendly...time will tell...thanks for your time.
Oh, well. The Zoom stuff is good. With apologies to the late Tom Petty: "The learning is the hardest part."
Making the comparison: The sound quality of the acoustic guitar tracks from the BR864 was great right off of the memory card - very clear sound with virtually no noise. The Zoom R8 was OK but needed a little "tweaking" with Audacity (or something similar) for noise reduction and the sound wasn't as clear as the BR864...could probably learn a bit more about using EQ functions within the R8 and those on Audacity...would just as soon not have to do that when the BR864 was near perfect...I need an electronics guru to see if maybe he/she can make it work...at this point, the manufacturer is my last chance. Kind of bummed...trying to contact nearby Roland Service Centers now.
