Boss GT-1000

Did anyone end up getting one of these? I’m looking for something simple and easy to replace a pedal board, see the “pedalboard” mode and think that might do what I want.

I tried it. It has a ton of options and sounds but I couldn't get a clean sound that sounded as pure as a dedicated high quality preamp pedal.

Sounded great for guitar amp tones.

He is right. I just bought one and there is NO WAY to get a clean bass tone. I still can't even get a good R&B, Ampeg 15 sound out of it either. I love the versatility and other things it does but it is still a guitarists tool.

I got the GTCore and you CAN get a clean tone out of it. And it does a B15 as well. Not just a guitar multi effects either.

Sounds great to me - i use one in the effects loop of my EBS Reidmar 750. Still getting to grips with the patch editing but there are some very usable ones built in. Very clean and hifi if thats what i want

I find it hard to believe one of the most powerful processors on the market put out by BOSS can't dial up a good clean. I have multiple great cleans and endless possibilities. Oh and 16 IR slots for cab sims.

One thing I have learnt is when you use the bright switch of an amp, it can introduce some noise if you have a treble boost as well.

I did get the GT-1000 for both bass and guitar earlier this year. Took some time but I was able to replicate all the patches from my GT-10B pretty closely and get some nice clean tones. Had to be more sparing on compression and preamp gain than on the GT-10B to achieve that.

If you're a fan of the Concert 810 (Ampeg SVT) preamp, it's not hard to duplicate its Ultra Lo switch. From various threads here I found that the SVT tone is flat by default, and that the Ultra Lo does a little bit more than advertised in terms of modifying EQ. To simulate the Ultra Lo I set up a parametric EQ right in front of the preamp to add a +5dB low boost and a +7 dB high boost, then scooped out a narrow -15 dB notch in the low mids around 500 Hz using a Q value of 4.

Another thing I noticed is that the noise suppression for bass introduced a lot of digital noise. Not sure why. The preset bass patches, and the patches in the featured bundles available via the BOSS Tone Studio app, seem to be fine. Something about my ordering of effects?

I’ve noticed the same digital noise associated with the noise suppressor. Sometimes its there, then it’ll disappear for a while. I think it’s something to do with Tone Studio and not the unit itself. My MacBook Air is a bit under powered for Tone Studio. I’ve notified Roland Backstage Customer Support. Hopefully a future update will fix it.

For me, there seems to be no rhyme or reason with this noise. I first noticed it when I got the unit. Then it disappeared for quite a while. I heard it again briefly the other day.

My guess is input output levels? I'm finding keeping the master between 7-10 o'clock on the Core and letting my head do the rest gets the most natural tones and doesn't mess with the tone at louder volume. I don't recall what I set rhe global at but I think it's -6db maybe -10.

I got one a few months ago and I get great clean sound from it. I like to use things a while before drawing a conclusion, and I did a lot of comparing it with my pedals for a month or so. I have since sold all my pedals off because it sounds so good.

I previously tried a bunch of multi effect units,including the helix, and the GT 1000 wins hands down for how good everything sounds, in my opinion. It’s not as simple to set up switches and controls as the line 6 products though.

I think the included bass presets are terrible. To test it out I started with an empty patch and set up a pedalboard style preset (not pedalboard mode) I have touch wah, phaser, pitch, flanger, chorus, 2 distortions and I’m using the master EQ only assigned to the knobs- I am not using any amp model, I think it sounds better without it. Everything is set to unity gain from beginning to end.

This one preset I made is working so well for me I haven’t bothered making any others yet. And it’s still cheaper than all the pedals I was using that didn’t include some of these effects. I’ve received lots of compliments on the sound from band mates as well, including other bass players I play drums with.

I will try to upload the preset I made here this weekend in case anyone else wants to try it

Glad you're enjoying it, I absolutely love it. I do the same setting up effects within a single patch. I have a morningstar midi controller that I'll use to trigger my effects on and off. I sold many pedals as well due to the GTK and the ones that are just easier to use than replicate I stick in the loops.
