Boss GT-1B

Gentlemen,
I'm looking to shape my sound a little for a country cover band I play in. I'm playing a J-bass through a Markbass 210 350W combo. I would like to add a compressor to the mix and I'm wondering if the compressor function on the Boss GT-1B is worth the money or should I buy a stand alone compressor? If I should go the stand alone route is there a good compressor pedal under $150?

The Boss GT-1B has a few compressors but the Limiter has all the settings you need on a compressor and seems to be based on the Boss Limiter pedal which is really a compressor with a ratio range from 1:1 to Infinity:1.

I used to use an MXR compressor pedal but sold it when I got the Boss GT-1B. The only thing better about the MXR is the row of lights that show how much compression is being applied which makes it easier to set the threshold you require. With the Boss you have to do it by ear which is probably a better approach anyway.

The MXR is analog and the Boss is digital but I really couldn’t tell the difference.

I used a Boss compressor Pedal for a couple decades and replaced it with a GT-1B last year. I’ve never looked back. I’m very happy with it. The Boss programming app works great and I recently downloaded a private app from a fellow TB’er that does the same thing but has a slightly different interface.

Working with the Boss GT-1B has always been great. For my general clean sound, i use the limiter as a gate to reduce as much possible noise from the single coils on my jazz bass, check out this arrangement I just did with a friend working with the effects unit using the clean patch, a Defretter+reverb+delay stack, and a synth bass.

Nice tone! I have a GT-1B coming soon. How were you using the expression pedal in this video? I'm new to the multi-effects processor game (pedal in general, I suppose).
