Boss Loop Station Questions(?)

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting a Boss Loop Station (the RC-20XL) and I was wondering if it's possible to hook up an electric bass AND an electric guitar both to the same loop station at the same time. I want to be able to lay bass lines and then switch to guitar and lay some loops as well when I practice and jam with my fellows.

On the Boss, there seems to be only one instrument input (plus one for a mic). I have no idea how I'd have to hook up my gear - in other woords, where would I put the loop station in my chain?

Right now I'm set up like this:

Bass --> FX pedals --> Amp head --> Mixer --> Headphones

Guitar --> multi fx unit --> Amp/or Mixer --> Headphones

Would I need to get some sort of A/B switch box? How would I work this?

Thanks guys.

I used to have the RC-2, the single unit version. AFAIK, you can only plug in 1 instrument at a time, but what you can do is lay down your bass line, then switch to a guitar. If you have an A/B switch, even better.

I had my loop station at the end of my signal chain, so that I could record any other effects if I so wanted.

Just plug both the guitar and bass into your mixer, and take an out from the mixer and send it to the looper.

Mmm... interesting. I haven't thought of that. My only concern is my other two band mates (2nd guitarist and electric drums) are both plugged into the same mixer. We all play through headphones and all our instruments (amps and drums) are plugged to the mixer. Would I be able to resend the looper's output signal to the same mixer to use into the final master mix?

I finally bought a Boss AB-2 2 way selector switch and the new Boss RC-30 looper. It all works fine.

BTW, besides the Stereo 1/4" inputs, there's also a Stereo 1/8" AUX input on the looper for an external CD/MP3 player. You can use it to record loops from any kind of stereo sources. So I can plug my bass amps' headphones output to the looper's AUX input instead of going through the A/B switch. 3 hours of stereo looping is a lot of looping!

Okay, so... I finally got to it. Had a busy week and haven't had much time to play with my new toys. So, here's my first song I did with the Loop Station.

Song title is Invalid Link Removed

Danelectro 59-DC, Vox Tanelab LE, Boss RC-30 Loop Station, Fender Jazz Bass with Flanger through an Ampeg PF-350 head.

The RC-30 has a lot of cool new features compared to the RC-20XL. It has to selectable tracks per phrase, loop FX, 3 hours of recording, and 99 banks to store your phrases.

Hours of fun. Highly recommended! :hyper:
