How does it compare to the Tascam MP3 Bass Trainer, when used in trainer mode? Will it loop passages?

Boss Micr BR Question.

I had the Tascam and wasn't happy. I sold it to buy the Boss Micro BR - especially considering .mp3s are the new norm. Yes the BR can loop passages. The manual can be quite daunting. Take small bites, and you'll get it.
I have the Tascam Cd bass trainer and the had the Micro BR. I had them both at the same time. Got rid of the BR. As PS29 said the manual is daunting. I personlly did not find the BR to be user friendly. Just did not seem to be a unit that you could fiddle with and figure things out. You really did have to use the manual to work it. The manual is ok but can be confusing.
What I've been primarily using it for is to load .mp3s, and loop passages so I can figure out/invent my own bass lines. There are oodles and oodles of extras: drum loops, effects, etc. - probably nice for when you use it as a 4-track recorder. But I don't use it like that (yet). Loading .mp3 is as simple as plugging it into your computer and transferring the file from your music to the memory card in the BR. Then you can play it and loop all you want. I also use it to record our band practices/gigs, but in simple .mp3 format.
I actually through my Micro BR out the back door. It hit the fence, bounced a few feet, and didn't break. That's the ONLY good thing I can say about it. Otherwise, it's way too complicated for such a tiny 4 track recorder.
I bought the Micro BR for the purpose of learning songs. I didn't even get to the point of trying to loop passages since:
- It would not play about 1/3 of the MP3s I put on it. I contacted BOSS, and they had no solution. These were normal files (not even VBR) that would play on even my ancient mp3 player.
- File names on the display were shortened to the first eight or so characters, so if you had a bunch of MP3s by the same artist you could not tell them apart when scrolling through.
- The SD card cannot be swapped without removing the batteries, and it's socket is mounted upside down making the card difficult to remove.
Not very convenient. I returned it and got the Tascam MP3 bass trainer. The looping function works great. Very happy with the Tascam!

Well, Thanks for all the input, guys! The Micro BR manual is a bit to ingest, but I think I'll be fine. Like anything worth using, it can take a bit to become familiar with.
I think I'm going to end up selling the Tascam Bass Trainer. I surely don't need both of them and the Micro BR presents more possibilities.
