boss overdrive pedal for growling?

after hearing the growling tones of different bass players in different bands, I slowly but surely was becoming obsessed with achieving a growling tone for my band, isn't it always.

is a boss overdrive pedal good for using with a musicman to get a good growl?

If you are talking about the ODB-3 IMHO it is straight chain saw. Not much growl to my ears. Hated the pedal and it had tons of tone and volume suck.

For 'growl' you want a pedal capable of light tubey overdrive, like a DHA VT1, English Muff'n, Fulltone Bassdrive, Blueberry, Hematoma, EBS Multidrive/Valvedrive, etc.

Try out Rat, i use my Turbo Rat for roaring growl. Turn the distortion very low, so it nearly dont distort (i have it at about 10-11 o`clock).
About ODB3, it can be used for nice Gallup-like overdive with blend to about 13-14 o`clock and gain all the way down, but it doesnt have that growl...

i find i can get a growl out of it iunno if it what you want. try setting the actual dist at like half way mabey a bit less(i dont have the pedal with me) and for the knob were you can let more gain thru or more clean put it about a little more than a quarter i cant remember if those are the settings but give it a try

To me growl would be more from a bass & amplifier then a pedal....a pedal might enhance it some what.....IMHO.
