Boss SY-1000!

I am thinking of getting a Sy1000 but its a big investment, had to sell my VB-99 a few years back - i do miss that its tracking was so fast.

Primarily plan to use for home studio wthe Sy1000 for additional sounds to create Synthwave/Darksynth music in my home studio(not live)
so mostly interested in the pad sounds variety, having a lot of lead tone synth sounds, looks like you can customize synth shapes(Sqr,Saw tri, Syn etc..) on 4 tracks.
Also sequencers built into it are a big plus!

how is the Sy1000 these days since its been released? heard the editor is very buggy?

I think you will like the SY-1000, it has a lot of features, and for home studio use it also gives you 8 USB audio channnels in/out for eramp/resynth, and recording each string.
I use it on bass for live gigs, and it is superb, can use up tp 4 bass preamps concurrently, different synths per pair of strings, or synths or modelled tones on selected strings.
The amp modelling is the same as the GT-1000, and I like the X midel amps.

I do plan to just create my own sounds from the various dynamic synth options - no need for PCM, piano sax etc.

My current setup is a GR-55 and SY-1000 using a GK 13 pin splitter to both units, GR-55 midi out > SY-1000 midi in to sync the patch changes together,
and the GR-55 Expression pedal to control SY-1000 functions.
A small mixer to a single stereo out to the FOH/PA system, and a mono monitor out to my stage monitor.

Just played a gig last night using the stereo setup for the first time, with all my patches re-edited, and was very VERY happy with my tone.

With the GR-55 Expression pedal I can morph many different tones over the EXP pedal position from heel to toe.

my signal route is...
GR-55 is modified to take a Tech21 Vt-Bass pedal in the normal pickup loop,
GR-55 instrument modelling which I generally use a bass or a guitar model (Rick, Gibson, P/Jazz, Hofner, and active), through an amp/cabinet model.
GR-55 PCM synth 1 which is usually some sort of pad/choir/wurlitzer keyboard.
GR-55 PCM synth 2 which is usually some sort of pad/choir/wurlitzer keyboard.
SY-1000 normal pickup through a X type or fliptop amp model
SY-1000 Instrument 1 either bass tone with an X amp model, or a synth tone, with effects.
SY-1000 Instrument 2 either bass tone with an X amp model, or a synth tone, with effects.
SY-1000 Instrument 3 either bass tone with an X amp model, or a synth tone, with effects.

So I usually use all these (8) input sources together with the 8 GR-55 Assigns, and the 16 x SY-1000 Assigns which allow parameter control of any setting in real-time (24 at the same time) with the EXpression Pedal, so I get a really full pallet of different sounds just using the one Expression pedal and only about 16 patches.

The strings (each string) for each input can be panned as required for a full stereo experience. (although there is debate as to whether stereo is of use for a live performance).

Where did you see OSC synth latency improvements? The Boss site only says ALT tuning improvements. Thanks.

I noticed that some of the patches work with the typical instrument input, yet others dont. I understand that it would work better with the gk3b pickup, but dont have one yet. Is there a way to change the synth input to take the instrument signal to test out the other patches? I poked around but couldnt find a clear way to change the input. Any help would be great. Thanks.

There is a setting per patch to change from GK input to Normal jack input, but you lose about 90% of functionality in the patch, depending on which features are used.
Which is a good reason to have the GK-3B, also make sure the SY-1000 is in "Bass Mode", but there are not many Bass mode patches around, which is why I developed "SY-1000FloorBoard" editor, which can convert bass/guitar mode patches and load them in the current bass/guitar mode the SY-1000 is running in.
