Bought a total crap bass

my conclusion would be if that is the case would be the whole LINE was crappy, not just a few misfits that are junk and I can rip on mine even more cause I paid 75 for it.

p.s. BUT That WON'T stop me from buying another one for 50 bucks if I see one out there because it DOES play and could be used in a band situation :cool:

crap or not doesn't matter, its better than no bass and you got to go with what you got right? :)

So whats wrong with a Sammick?

Here is a tip to some, Sammick makes or made basses from some very prominent names, or at least they used to. My old Ibanez was made by Sammick.

I was also told that any bass made in Korea in the mid 90's was made by Sammick no mater what name is on the headstock.

As to the bass that is the topic of this thread, great deal! And if you are using a bass unplugged to keep your fingers moving and practice, how can it possibly be bad?

BTW, I'd bet if you went and fixed this bass, you might be surprised!

It is my understanding that Sammick makes basses for "Squier by Fender". I used to own a Squier standard series bass that was made by Sammick in Indonesia I think. Carven has a factory in Indonesia as well...

There is a shop near me here in South Jersey (outside Philly) that sells a lot of Sammick basses. I think he gives one to students who sign up for three months of lessons... or something like that. Not a bad deal if you are just getting started... in the first year of playing you need the lessons more than you need a hot rod bass anyway.

I suggest one gets started, I just bought a crappy one myself to keep me busy while I'm across the pond. I don't know what kinda strings are on here but they tear up my fingers much more than the Ernie Ball roundwounds I have at home.

Even in the 90's? Ah well, ya learn something new everyday. And now that you mention it I DO RECAL HEARING ABOUT Core - Tek here on TB.

But then this still proves the point I was trying to make...Sammick does make damn fine basses!

I'm sure they do an can make fine basses. The one I bought for $30 can still be considered a crappy bass in most ways. It works though and I am very happy that I got it so I can practice at work when I can. I would like some more finger friendly strings, but maybe these ones can help me with tougher fingers. It is hard to invest in strings that cost almost as much as your bass guitar did.

I just made a crappy strap to match my crappy bass. It cost $0.0 made out of a piece of nylon shipping webbing. It is cool that the bass is so light because the strap is only 1"-1.25" in width. The bass does exhibit a touch of dive however. The next question is what super budget strings to put on it next when it needs new ones?

I think the next task is to make a suitable gig bag for free! :D
