Bourbon

I know we have some bourbon fans here, and as I sit here with a Woodford Reserve, I figured I'd ask the experts what they drink. According to the scotch threads, some of you have great taste in booze, so lets see what bourbons you enjoy, what I should try and all that.

I've never tried that many, woodford, knob creek, jim beam, and wild turkey... Definately not a conosour. I like the woodford for being smooth, and easy to drink too much, and the knob creek for being a bit rougher, but still pleasant. The beam didn't do much for me, and the wild turkey was pretty unasuming.

Thoughts, suggestions (I always like to hear whats worth drinking), just want to proclaim your love of whiskey...

The only bourbon I usually drink is Beam, but I drink an average of a quart of it a week straight. I love it and it's the only liquor I really drink often. It has to be just the right temperature, which is a very specific room temperature, not any room temperature or warmth, there's a small window where it tastes absolutely perfect. I've probaly got about 50 empty quart bottles in my basement.

I've been trying to get a bottle of booker's bourbon, but no liquor store from eastern to central canada carries it. If anyone from the states knows a way to send bottles of booze up north, I'd pay for it. (Booker's Bourbon is the personal batch of Booker Noe the owner and sixth generation of Jim Beam, it's the ONLY unfiltered, uncut, straight from the barrel to the bottle whiskey in production. True bourbon)

If you've looked into it, how far does central canada go? If its available in BC or Alberta, I'll grab myself some and fire whatever you'll pay shipping for in your direction.

I called a bunch of the major liquor stores between PEI and Ontario, noone really ever even heard of it so I didn't bother, it's about $60 US a quart though. If you find some up there, I'd love to buy a bottle.

Maker's Mark FTW! :hyper:

Evan Williams Single Barrel 1992 (or 1995) vintage for special occasions. I absolutely LOVE this stuff!

BTW, I'm no bourbon expert. This is just what I enjoy. I'm sure there are plenty more out there that are just as good that I have yet to discover!

Maker's Mark is my go-to bourbon. It hits just the right price/performace ratio. Not too expensive (but not cheap), smooth and great tasting, works great on the rocks or as a mixer.

I'm not a fan of Knob Creek and other more bitter bourbons. There's a certain harshness that I don't enjoy.

A new (to me) bourbon I enjoy is Bulleit. It's somewhere between Maker's Mark and Knob Creek. Not quite as smooth as MM, but not nearly as bitter as KC.

IMHO. price be damned either higher or lower, you cannot beat the flavor & smoothness of Jim Beam Black. I've tried almost everything at one time or another and some with MUCH higher price points, Black is the best I've found...

About a month ago my wife assisted me in a blind taste test comparison of Maker's Mark and JB Black. I picked Maker's Mark in every round.
I agree with jimb213, "Maker's Mark is my go-to bourbon. It hits just the right price/performace ratio. Not too expensive (but not cheap), smooth and great tasting."
However, I don't mix bourbon with anything except ice.

Don't get me wrong MM is a great bourbon, just not my preference, honestly I much prefer Irish whiskey to bourbon straight or over ice. Beam Black just suits my palate ;)
