Im a double bass player and i honestly wanted to comment something that someone spoke in forum about german and french bows. Actually in my opinion i disagree on what people say about that diference between french and german bow like german gets more big sound and french tecnical things more clear and well less sound... That is only on the first sight vision.
I honestly define that conclusion with a very straight forward vision but with no direction because both bows has issues to resolve and both has tecnical problems also that is up to the artist to resolve it. I did play french bow for a couple of years and then i changed to german because of my way to think is more compatible to that way. Bows at the begining is a question of habit and then we have to adapt our musical sense through our right arm (exclusing the left hand now) wich means that our arm and our bow must be like gas and the engine. without gas it doenst work, or without the engine, but with both it does works. I do dare myself to say both bows has 50% qualitites and 50% tecnical issues, that becomes a problem. u shud think like... u must by ur own think about ur tecnique issues, developing the best things they have and also giving a big step with time of course, turning those tecnical problems to be similar as a quality if you know what i mean ( it must sound like a quality you got inside of each player), and reducing the tecnical issues to 0/or turning them like -50% wich i define like everything tecnicaly perfect (diferent from musicaly perfect)
. Its just a question of mentality, we all have to be an open mind to give a seasonable opinion like to show up the public what you want perfectly to show them, even your mistakes should be memorized to fix that later.
For bowing i use Kreutzer violin studies (sorry but i dont remember the number of them and i cant search for it because im beeing medicated in a hospital). Just 3 of them, wich i define them perfect to warm up, to keep the left hand in a good position and strong.
I hope that this speech does resolve to organize your mind like i am resolving mine.
