BR2E not loud enough - now what?

I have a Ampeg BR2E head that I am using with a SVT410HLF cab.

I am noticing during shows that it running out of head room - I am competing with a couple of loud marshalls...

It looses the punch and clarity because I have it up so loud. I am thinking about an SVT 3 Pro. Now, both of these amps are rated at 450W, but I am thinking that the 3Pro is Tube, and should be a little louder....

Any other thoughts? Would a bigger/extra cab make a bigger difference? Can't afford to do both right now....

If you have a big pa with 18" subs then let the pa do the its share of the work.

And if you don't have a big pa with 18" subs then you need to get one.

The best way to gig is to have a big pa and all the players show up with small amps and you mike or run xlr outs from each amp.

The old way of huge bass and guitar amps and a small pa that is just for vocals is very old school and does not sound as good.

I Run less powerful b2r and b3 ampeg heads and I always have plenty of power.

if you're looking for a cheap solution, I actually use the b2r with an ampeg 1540 in a metal band. I picked up a hartke attack di pedal which i highly recomend and it can just make the b2r crank. I can barely hear the thing without the pedal plugged in and then have to turn the volume down almost halfway with the pedal. Plus, the pedal sounds awesome.

My HLF is 4 ohms. I agree - I would rather have the guitarists turn way down, but that is not so easy to do now, is it....

I was thiking of adding a 1x15.

Is the tone of the 3pro going to be that much better than the BR2E? (probably a dumb question:) )

I don't think the 3pro is gonna get you where you want to be-same power output. Tube pre, but the output stage is probably identical to what you already have.
Ultimately you are going to need more power AND more speakers. Best bet? I'd get another cab, and a power amp that puts out in the neighborhood of 600-800 watts bridged. Slave it from the B2RE, power the 2nd cab with it.
