does anyone know where i can find diagrams of the front/back bracings for a double bass?
Harry Wake wrote a pretty basic book called "To Make a Double Bass", or something like that. It shows the basics of bracing a flatback, and bass bar construction. There generally isn't any bracing in a round back.
Ask Arnold to post a pic of his latest flatback bracing system.
OK: Arnold, howzabout posting a pic of your latest flatback bracing system?
Sorry, not until she's strung-up and passes muster.
I once knew a girl that passed muster when she was strung up.
I just checked for the Harry Wake book at Amazon - the cheapest one they had was $91! will keep looking around. (Alibris.com didn't have it.)
Wake Publishing sells new copies for $38.00.
Check out my buddy Andrew Brown at
He's the dude that did the study of adjusters and is just about to publish a study of flat vs roundbacks. Ya might wanna e-mail him on this. His site is pretty kewl just in general and has some pics of some very insteresting basses.
all of this is great stuff! i checked out andrew brown's site - what talent! truthfully, i liked the art even more than the bass stuff. thanks guys - looking forward to more posts on this thread.
