Yes, Mr. Chirkov won! It was a thrilling finale, with both Chirkov and Kim performing Nina Rota's Div. Concertante, Mr. Surany playing Bott. 2, and Mr. Liu playing Proto's Carmen Fantasy. The judges also awarded two special prizes for interpretation:

Special Mention for the best performance of Bach goes to Friedemann Schneeweiss
from Germany. He played the Prelude to Suite 5 in C minor, at pitch, in C-G-D-G "original tuning".

Special Mention for the best performance of an original bass work post 1970 goes to Chunyang Wang from China. He played a work of his own creation!

Mr. Liu was also the audience favorite, no surprise since he was playing on his home turf! (as a UNT student :D)

It was a fantastic evening of bass playing at the highest level!
