Brand new bass player

Hi,
I’m a brand new bass player.
In fact, I’m a brand new musician.

I started with a ukulele in January and kept at it. Moving into tenor xl. The deepest sound I could find.

My son was a double bass player - -among other deep resonant instruments. He always said that he was drawn to instruments that sound like a human heart.

it occurred to me that I could play double bass. I’m a week into a rental and online lessons. It is thrilling me and I can feel the heart. I am very interested in acquiring a double bass of my own. Happy for recommendations around 2k.

The style I am interested in playing pizzicato and am tall although that may not matter at all. My online teacher mentioned Kay’s so I’ve been looking into those, but they may not be the best entry point.

I’m open to suggestions and am glad to have found this community.

Your profile doesn't say where you're located, but you should find a local stringed instrument / luthier shop and try as many double basses as you can. There are several options in beginner-level instruments within your budget. You also may be able to rent one with the option to purchase later. Good luck in your search!
