About that you are quite right. :) I should have included an apology to the OP for any sarcasm. I honestly thought it was a troll/joke posting when I first read it. That said, I think the OP should be open to hearing non-snarky thoughts in the spirit of education as Eric suggested.

I have to agree with you Doc. As you are aware I am fairly new to the upright, but the investment in my Upton standard is helping me make great gains in short order. I find myself practicing roughly three hours a day, and I have no issues with pain because the bass is set up properly (thanks Eric!). Of course taking lessons from a competent teacher also helps with this, but the bass itself was well worth the price and wait. I realize I was extremely fortunate to be able to buy a quality instrument, and not everyone can do that. However I have a feeling that waiting to buy a quality bass is money well spent because not only will you enjoy it more, and be inspired to play more, but you will save money in the long run while avoiding injuries from a lesser instrument. Besides, In this economy I am sure there are deals waiting to be had if you do the research.

To the original poster..Congratulations on your new bass! If you love it thats all that really matters.

no this was supposed to be a serious post but obviously my new bass isnt good enough for most of the new people on here. sorry i cant afford a really good quality one, i live in the middle of knowhere in idaho and im the only one in my home town that can actually play a string bass. the closest music store around is almost 100 miles away and i got the best bass they had. i am pretty good at playing it and i make it have a good sound even though its a cremona, im only in high school and its the best i could ask for.. sorry its not good enough for you guys on here but its funny cuz i dont really care to much, its just the internet.

I, too, wish you the best and nothing but enjoyment with your bass. I apologize for any part I might have played in dampening your spirits. I sincerely hope you will consider the serious side of what's been said here. Having worn out a Palatino and now having bought a Cremona, one wonders what was the total outlay for the two basses. Have you had the opportunity to play better basses (say, basses starting at $1500-$2000) that have been set up well? If not, I hope you do have a chance soon. I think you'll see how much more pleasurable it is to play one of those instruments and how much faster you can progress. I do understand that not everyone has the $$$ available to get what most here consider a quality entry-level bass. The discussion has come around here many times. Do you rent? Do you borrow? Do you save up? Do you just go for the Palatino or Cremona? I think it's fair to say that most here (but certainly not all) would consider the last choice one that's to be avoided. I know-- water under the bridge-- you already have the bass. Looking toward the future, I think you'd be wise to consider very carefully whether it would ever make sense to put any more money into the bass you have. Enjoy playing! :)

Hi Jordan! Since its the internet, there is a long history of pranksters on Talkbass fooling oldtimers. I'm certain that nobody intended to insult you or your bass - but please understand that it is unusual for a person to upgrade from a Palatino to a Cremona.

If you stick around you will find most people to be pleasant and helpful, since they share with you the joy of bass. Please be assured you are very welcome to participate in this forum regardless of type of bass. And I think you would find this forum of great value to you in developing as a bass player.

Thank-you for posting a picture of your bass, I think it looks very nice. The finish to me seems somewhat unique with its shading. Congratulations, its exciting to get your hands on a new bass.

Congrats on your new bass Jordan! Play that thing and have fun. If you wear it out playing it ...... good for you. I would say that if that happens, start now, by saving to invest into a bass that will hold up, for ever....:) no matter how much you play it.

Many congratulations on your new bass. Man, you look very happy in that picture!

Nothing wrong with the middle of Idaho; my people are from the middle of Nebraska. Doesn't matter much where you live; matters more if you keep on playing...

I was playing a high school Kay when I was your age, with a bowed neck and strings a mile high. You are doing great.

First, welcome to the club. There's nothing like a double bass. It gives a unique pleasure understood only by others who have shared the experience.
I've read your other posts. I commend your desire and your ambition, and I believe all the other posters do, too.
That being said, I have to tell you that you're facing signigicant odds. No one wants to destroy your dream, but neither do we want you to have unrealistic hopes. I am sufficiently familiar with the other posters' philosophies to know that they feel the same way.
Given your circumstances, my opinion is that the best way to meet your challenges now is to get personal instruction, not worry about whether your bass is 'good enough'.
We all wish you the best.
