brand new gk head loose di out

I got a new gk head 100rb and at a gig the sound girl says the di out is loose and she won't use it.
After we get back I check and it's not loose but the mouth is wider than the cables and just sits in there opposed to locking in making you think it's loose. I called Sweetwater and they said they have heard of this complaint but it's not loose because it's broken but wider by design I guess kind of odd

An XLR is a standard part and only comes in one size if correctly made. IMO if an XLR plug goes in but doesn't lock the socket is faulty and needs to be replaced.

I had something similar happen with my MB500 head, but chalked it up to cheap XLR cables, as another cable we tried later fit it well.

I see considerable variances in male and female XLR, not uncommon. Unless someone was swinging from the cable or kicking it around stage I don't understand unless the sound tech just wanted their DI to be used.

Can't speak for the O.P., but the cable was loose enough in mine that it wasn't making any connection. It would literally fall out if you let it hang free... too much difference in cable connector OD and jack ID to allow the "lock" to engage.

we've run into cheap cables that were a little small and would have connection problems in microphones and DI jacks... We just ordered a box of XLR plugs. THe guitar player and I are going to get together for a night of beer and soldering the new plugs on. What could go wrong with beer and a pair of hot soldering irons. I havent seen a jack that's too big/loose, but we have run into small plugs.. so I assume some jack manufacturer could to get it wrong too... or a combination of both.

My new MB Fusion 800 is exactly the same way, the XLR goes in, but never "clicks" in place. You can, literally, just give it a slight pull and it'll come right out. I was considering what I might wanna do about it, but the DI sounds pretty good anyway, as long as it stays in and connected...
