Brand new Mesa/Boogie Subway rig problem

So yesterday I got a Subway D-800+. Got a Subway 112 cab today to go with it. Brand new, sealed package. I set it up, plugged everything in, and within the first five notes I played, I could tell something was wrong. It sounds like I have an overdrive pedal running. I checked all cables, and tried the amp with an Ampeg cab I have. Sounded fine. Plugged the amp back into the Mesa cab, and the fuzz was back.

Is there any way that I have it connected wrong or something dumb like that? Or is my cab just defective?

This will be sorted out quickly, sir. Have you called Mesa yet? With as many of those as there are just owned by members here, I'd figure the total units around make for an inevitable failure rate. Chances are great that you'll be happy with the end of this story......

Without taking the cab apart, have you checked for signs of damage from shipping? Hear any rattles or anything else that doesn't look or sound right?

I had a GK cab delivered once that had been so mis handled the horn was loose and a magnet loose in the cab. UPS, go figure. Funny thing was the shipping package wasn't banged up too badly.

Musicians friend made it right, and sent a new cab out before I got the damaged one in the mail. (I needed it a sap for some gigs, and MF delivered)

Sorry for the problem. It's possible that there was hidden shipping damage, give the guys a call on Monday and they will make it right for you.

The factory works a standard 4 x ten hour days, that's what they prefer. Coming from working long days myself (12-16 hour days) in the touring industry with 3 or 4 day weekends, so I understand the reasoning.

As another option, here are a couple of our service centers in your state:

Jonathan Blick
4712 W Washington Blvd, Milwaukee, WI, 53208-, USA
  • P: (414) 475-6198
  • F: (414) 475-1632

Cascio Music
13819 W National Ave, New Berlin, WI, 53151, USA
  • P: (262) 789-7600
  • F: (262) 957-4518

It is nice.
Agreed, I have always preferred working longer days because once I start on a project I like to keep going balls to the wall fully immersed. It's more intense yet more satisfying at the same time. Still the same number of hours, but distributed more to my liking.

Same here (I work a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off), but I mostly like avoiding an extra trip to/from work. The drive with the traffic around here is more stressful than the day at work for me, and about 1-2 times a month I end up waiting for the same train twice, 30 miles apart.

When I lived and worked out in San Diego many years ago, my shop worked 4/10 and we had a rotation schedule for who had to be there on Friday to open the dock for shipping and receiving. Everybody loved it, just as productive as 5/8 but not having to deal with Friday rush hour in SoCal is soooo worth it. You could spend hours on the freeway and go almost nowhere, and the i-15 has few exits.

To the OP, I'm sure Mesa will make this right come Monday.
