So I recently got bit by the bass bug; I had always wanted to learn how to play, but never really had the time or the focus..... Well, I stumbled across a YouTube video about eBay electric guitar/bass kits, and it reignited my desire to learn!
I'm one of those weirdos who, if I want something and can make it myself, I'll most definitely try making it myself... And this was most definitely no exception! I'm having a blast building this guitar, and despite having to repair a newbie mistake, everything is going swimmingly!
However, it has come time to start game-planning the wiring, and since I've come across this forum a thousand times in the past week whilst trying to figure out how an electric p-bass goes together, I figured I'd join so I could post my own idiot newbie questions... The userbase seems very informed and helpful, and having a world's worth of knowledge in your corner is never a bad thing when embarking on something completely new...
Last but not least, a few pics of the build thusfar. I went with a "mahogany" (most likely meranti/"phillipine mahogany") bass kit, as it had the double pickups and pickguard shape that I really wanted...
P.s. I do admit, I was indeed plucking and slapping around a bit once I got the neck, bridge, and strings on. Tuned it up as best I could with the aid of online tuners, and was messing around with it sans pickups... It looked absolutely silly, but it sounded very promising! I might have something playable in the end...
P.p.s. I played violin and trumpet in school way back in the day (back when the years started with "19", etc), and had a drum set for a bunch of years but never got a lot of time on it before people started complaining. I also had access to a drum & bass setup (techno-type) back in the day too... Not a lot of musical experience, but some...
