This is mainly going towards the fellow highschoolers of tb. Have you ever had other people who play bass or guitar blatantly say a bass sucks because it isn't a certain brand or one that isn't that popular with out even trying or hearing it ie; "You have a peavey i haven't even heard of them they probably, suck go buy a fender" "your not a serious bassist if you don't play a fender, ibanez, dean, warwick or gibson". I say these brands beacause i noticed they are really popular at my age group (dean because they make all those fancy shaped basses and guitars which makes them really popular). This brand popularity is very common in highschools and is mostly made by ignorant kids who usually get their parents to pay for all their expensive goods.

Brand snobbery

As long as you're happy, who the hell cares? Besides, the snobs are too dumb to realize that there is always someone out there with better gear than them.
They're missing out on some great gear. As far as you should be concerned, they're the one missing out.
I'm not saying this happening to me (maybe happened once), i'm asking if you guys had any experience with that attitude.
Yeah, I've had a little bit experience with it, but it's not really my fault that I can't afford much. 
Anyways, if they say that you're not a real bass player if you don't play those, then so what? You might not be 'real', but you'll definitely be different, and that to me is what makes a bass player sound differently from the one jamming right now or practicing at home. I just like it when I hear different tones.

Don't sweat it. Besides all you have to do is be able to play better than them.......in my experience, then snobs usually cannot play worth a damn or had mommy and daddy buy them the most expensive thing on the rack. Or they bought the bass the salesman told them was the best.

Become thick skinned! Could be worse, you could be like me and one of maybe 5 in the state who don't use the Ibanez, Fender, Ernie Ball stuff.
About a year ago, I met a rather famous bass player and he behaved the same way. He is in his 40s and still acted this way. He asked me what kind of bass I played. I told him I had several. He wanted to know what I had. I told him I had a Steinberger XL2. He said they sucked. I said I liked it and I had had if for about 18 years. He again said it sucked and wanted to know what else I had. I told him I had a Kubicki Ex-Factor. He didn't know what it was. He wanted to know what else. I told him I had an early 80s Aria SB900. Again, he said those sucked. He admitted he used to play them in the early 80s because they gave them to him as an endorsee but still, they "sucked". Told him about my Godin A5. He didn't know about Godin either but it probably sucked. He said, "you saw that bass I played up there today"? I said, "yeah, a Fender". He said that is the best bass he has ever owned, blah, blah, blah. I quit talking about my basses at that point as I don't own a Fender....If I did, I probably wouldn't have owned the "right" kind.
One of the best bassists I've ever seen and heard did his work on an 80's Aria he had sold for $300, ran across it 5 years later in Japan, bought it again for $275 bucks. Bone stock and this guy absolutely KILLED IT with this bass. Not to say Aria is a crappy bass by any means, but it isn't exactly on the "snob list". Experiences such as this have slapped any bass snobbery I may have had right out of me. Always remember that the bassist is the most important thing in the signal chain, you can't get out of a bass what you can't put into a bass, Period!
Very true for some people nothings ever good enough unless you have top of the line or they also have it. I hate it when you just acquired something, show it to someone and the first thing out of their mouth is mentioning that there is a better one or it's not brand name. I hate snobs. I don't mean people who just say something snobbish once i awhile, i mean the hardcore ones who don't shut up and treat you lesser because you don't have what's "in" or the expensive stuff they have, the ones who brag about how much they spent on everything. And i do not apologize for offending any of the snobs on the forum who read this post.
By the way i play a ibanez btb but i don't act like a a** about it.
Ah... I dealt with this in my old bmxing days... Now I deal with it a bit... There are quite a few anti-warwick(ers) around that really despise my bass... I still think my bass is perfection

But the brand doesnt matter as long as you like it... I actually fancy a few of the peavey models. If they bash your bass... dont let it get ya down, Go show em up with some killer slapbass or something

Tiger and Spade, I don't want to hold out but I just don't feel it would be right. With his attitude I probably shouldn't care but...I do.
Except for his crappy attitude about (my) basses. He was very fun to talk to. Oh yeah, he also could not find enough bad things to say about one of my favorite bass players. That kind of sucked especially since the one that I said was one of my faves has gone on record before saying he really likes the playing of the one I was talking with. I mentioned that and he said, "yeah who cares, he sucks, he can't play at all". And, "He used to come back stage to my shows in the late 70s and early 80s and blow smoke up my arse, telling me how much he liked my playing and what an influence and inspiration I was". I said see he has good taste. This didn't go any where, so I decided we should talk about travelling, beer, etc..
