Double Bass Breaking News NEW EDB-2 VAP From Headway

I have the demo version of the VAP right now, and wow, it sounds really really good! In comparison to my Headway HE with the VAP I get a smoother midrange (read less piezo honk) but a more thumpy presentation across the fingerboard, with almost the same settings as the HE. The low end seems cleaner somehow. I really like the fully variable hpf, much better than the switches. The layout of the controls is less cramped and more logical than the HE, which is really crowded and tough to figure out on a gig, imo.
Overall it is killer. I am thinking of flipping my HE, it seems like a worthwhile upgrade for me. What is the trade in program???

Do you mean a small 'combo'? or just a head?

I haven't tried this yet, but I think a powered PA speaker might work well. If I were going that route I'd go to someplace (maybe GC) and try out a bunch of them. I suspect you would want at least a 12" speaker. Whether that qualifies a 'small' I don't know.

It's not just a 'power amp' BUT, depending on how much power you need the BAM200 works really well, and is small and inexpensive. It also has a 1mg input and a very good eq section. For the small groups I work with I find that it is plenty for me.

Is there a list for trying out the demo? Am I correct that to power the tube and 48v Phantom you’ll need to power the VAP from the AC power supply? I can’t imagine running all that with two 9 volt batteries, but maybe you can.

The demo unit hit Memphis today. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like it’s compatible with the Yamahiko - it’s clipping like a son of a gun. I’m going to futz some more and read the manual to see if anything can be done. I suspect, like my Slampegg, it just needs a 12AT7 or 12AU7 to balance the hot output of this pup, but I don’t want to open up and fiddle with the demo unit. Works great as a one stop shop preamp for full circle, though. I’m going to run it through the paces with all the amps I’ve got, but I suspect it’s going to really shine with my PJB powered cab. With the AI head a lot of the functionality seems redundant. Seems to me the headway folks would do well just to go ahead and incorporate a power amp stage as well since they’ve taken it this far. I’m playing the BG book for the ABBA musical this week, figure I’ll play through it in that context since that’s the only work I’ve got coming in right now.
