Brian Minato bassist for Sarah McLachlan. Wife and I were talking about the female artists of the 90s and I put on the song "Possession" which I vaguely remembered. Started out calm, little guitar lick... and then Brian Minato ripped my face off with a bass force that literally makes this song. I cannot *believe* how out in front the bass is on this song, and I never realized it before.

For the real detectives out there... what is Brian playing in these screenshots? Sorry I can't get any better video; it was the early 90s and 480P was IT.

I thought you were going to cover it. Dude, you SLAYED it. Listening to your bass coming through way on top of the mix through these fat speakers was like... transcendent. Thank you for sharing. If your views suddenly skyrocket, it's just me learning the song by watching you.

Sarah McLaclan’s “Fumbling Towards Ecstasy” album is fantastic music, has held up well over the years, and Minato’s bass playing on the record is superb. Listening again now, he sounds amazing. Not flashy, but just perfect choices at every turn. Such a boss.

his bass line on Sarah M’s massive hit, “Adia”… super good, under the radar but a lot of cool motion going on. I didn’t really spend time with the Surfacing album back in the day, I had moved on to a jazz studies phase in college…. but revisiting now, and Minato slays on that record too! The deceptively simple perfection of his parts reminds me of Hutch Hutchison, who also is fantastic, of course 🙂

While I’m fanboying, Brian Minato also, unsurprisingly, sounds just as fantastic throughout the live album, “Mirrorball”. Spinning the expanded “Complete Conert” edition now. His tone in the mix is my ideal, well rounded and just a little punchier than how they mixed the studio albums. The drums are also a little punchier than the studio albums. It’s a great listen, wish I’d not waited this long to hear it 😂
