bridge: iron or alluminium?

Aluminum is a conventional material for bridges. Iron is not as far as I know. If you are going to make a bridge I would definately chose aluminum because it will be much easier to work with. You also didn't mention what kind of iron stock you have. Cast iron I believe is very hard to mill.
