Bright sounding pick ups

I have been listening to samples of the SJB-3. I like them used individually. If I used a pick a lot I would go with those. I like something lower output for slapping with both pickups on

Yes! My answer was definitely coloured by being a picker. They respond so well, as you have indicated lol. I should have specified. They might do ok for a slap tone but probably not the best choice all round!

I been finding squire jazz pickups for sale, are they similar to fender? Would I achieve the same brightness?

Otherwise, I think I'm going with EMG. It seems to be the winner. Plus I can find PJ configurations. My only issue is my active preamp and the pick up's might take a lot of battery power

More often than not, changing strings is my go-to, first step when I want to change my sound. Sometimes, the results are downright profound. Also, it's relatively easy to do and/or undo and requires no soldering.

If I wanted to brighten up my sound, I'd probably dig out a pack of Ernie Ball Cobalt .100-gauge rounds from my considerable collection. (re: the consequences of being a serial string-tryer-outer ) And if that was a bit too "clangy", but landed somewhere in the ballpark of what I'm looking for, then I'd probably grab a set of Rotosound Solo Bass 55's. They're pressurewound stainless steel, so some of the teeth-chattering high-end is mildly diminished.
