So lately the gigs I have been getting require I bring both an electric bass guitar and an electric upright bass. So grateful I have that NS Design WAV Omni bass. Sure makes life easier!!

Bringing an Bass Guitar and EUB to a gig

If that's what the music/genre/venue/crowd demands, then that's what you got to do to be legit.
Now, if you're playing country in a roadhouse in the boonies and the stage is enclosed in chicken wire then not so much.

I’ve done this on many occasion. My balance point now is a fretless ABG. It does electric really well and does upright a little better than my Messenger Bass. I do miss the position of natural playing with my EUB though. It grooves a bit differently in the upright position. Sound wise, I could be playing a P-bass with flats just as easily. Glad it’s working for you.
I took both to several gigs back in the early 20-teens. Unfortunately, mine is a home made 41.5” scale beast that weighs about 25 lbs., but it sounds fantastic. I used it on two or three songs, but eventually just went with a fretless electric bass.
I did this for years with my country band. EUB for the classics. The EUB always garnered the most attention from the audience. Made my gigs more fun going back and fourth.
I've heard by many that EUB sounds like a fretless Bass Guitar, not a true DB. That aside, has anyone got experience using an EUB to minimise or avoid shoulder pain from arthritis? I was wondering if the vertical position might allow my right arm to hang naturally downward, compared to the electric bass where I hold my arm up while plucking the strings. My shoulder pain has been increasing over the years, and if the different position might alleviate it some, I might be motivated to get an EUB. Any comments/experience with this type of issue?
Yeah EUB has more mwah than fretless but can’t produce the woody tones of an upright. I am looking at a NS Design right now to replace my fretless I bought two years ago to replace an upright! My issue with the whole thing is the amp. Doesn’t seem possible to get one amp to be “transparent” enough to manage the delicate and dulcet tones of the fretless/EUB/upright, AND, the punchy slap when playing electric bass. I’m afraid that buying another instrument is just gear acquisition. The audience didn’t demand an upright, the BL/singer was interested more in the looks of the upright rather than the sound of it. He’s okay with the replacements and maybe so am I?
An EUB Set up like a DB sounds like an amplified DB with a piezo pickup.
An EUB set up like a bass guitar sounds like a (fretless) bass guitar.
Using BG strings (with the shorter scale) brings you closer to a BG, using DB strings (with the longer scale and different construction) brings you closer to a DB.

Look into Phil Jones for an option on EUB clean tone. Works for me. Older Super Flightcase in my case. 2 of the drivers fire upward, very EUB/UB friendly.
Mesa TT-800 is great for me for this - I set the Boogie channel up as the more "exciting" sound for electric bass, and the Subway channel up for EUB and more laid back tones.
