Broken Collarbone

Has anyone here ever broken their collarbone, and if so, did yours heal properly?

Story: I broke left collarbone about nine years ago, and it didn't heal quite right, as now, my left shoulder is slouched, pulled forwards, and I think it's messing up my whole shoulder assemble, since my shoulderblade seems to be being pulled upwards, and out. This really bugs me, as now, if I sit against a hard surface (i.e. brick wall) my whole left arm, and shoulder will go numb. also, if I trun my head to the left enough, I get a really sharp pain from where I broke it, to my jaw.

Is there anything that I can do to improve my shoulder, as it even hurts to keep my bass on for more than an hour, cause of the strap. If I get hit on the left arm, it also really hurts my shoulder. If I sleep on my left side, well, there goes any usefull use of my left arm for that day.

So as you can see, this really sucks. Is there anything that I can do to help it? Or am I stuck like this?

Anyone got advice, or their own stories to tell? It would be very much aprreciated.

thanks,

- Felix

I broke my collar bone in 8th grade ,13 years old. They say it didn't heal right. I suspect many of them do not as you cannot cast it.
Mine hurt for years, probably close to 20 years to be exact, every time the weather changed and sometimes I guess for the hell of it. It has not bothered me for the last 5 years or so at all.

I don't have any noticable physical effects except my right collar bone sticks out further than my left by a good 2"

Good luck with it.See an orthopedic surgeon about it but you know what that means. Sounds like surgery to fix it may be an option and considering mine hurt for 20 years you may at least look into it.

I broke my collarbone about 2 years ago. I was snow tubing with my church and one of our chaperones (an ex-Army Ranger Paratrooper) jumped onto my tube (6'3" 200+ lbs) and I fell to the ground. I got up to try to get out of the way, and another tube clocked me in the legs and I went down on my left side. My head was spinning like crazy, and I didn't even know my collarbone was broken until I tried to push myself up off the ground. Needless to say, it was one of the most painful moments of my life.

It appears to have healed properly. My arm gets sore after playing bass though. I use an extra wide strap currently, but it's really thin. I'm thinking I may get a Moody or something. For the record, I play a 6 string through neck made of swamp ash, mahogany, and maple.

I broke mine when I was probably 10 or so.

I want to assume that my healing was aided by me being in a high growth period of my life at the time.

I have no ill effects and at this moment can't even find the point of break by touch.

Shattered mine in 78, it was in about 10 pieces. That is the most painful break I can think of, and believe me, I've broken many a bone...luckily, they got mine in a figure 8, and I had brain surgery to fix the subdural hematoma I got in the same bike wreck. By the time I left the hospital 16 days later, my clavicle was mostly healed. Considering the fact that I almost died, and was paralyzed on the entire left side of my body, it's a wonder I can throw a ball or play my bass today!

O wow, I didn't really expect many responses, cool.

I just came back from Lab. City, was fun, and I am booking a doctors appointment tommorow morning, cause' it is really starting to bug me.

No-one has experienced pain like the one that I have described? lucky for you.

n'ways, I'm very tired, and I don't even remeber ehat was the last word that I typed. woot. sleep/.....

Does anyone know of any surgery that can be done to fix my collarbone? Because I really can't deal with it anymore, thanks!

i know this is kinda late and this blog is old but i figure i should share what I went through with my collarbone. I had broke my when i was just 12yrs (6th grade) well a 6ft girl pushed me down. it took 6mos to heal I wore a backbrace figure 8 brace. after the 6th month my doctor x-ray it and told me it was healed but I don't think it heal properly as i can move it with my arm and makes a popping/creaking noise. and if you have no other option of your collarbone to heal I remember my doctor saying that he would put a pin in me i didn't want that so i kept the brace on.

...broke mine 4 years ago, it was "displaced", healed about two inches short, lower, and off to the side...doctors assured me it would be OK at the time and stood by their "appraisal" thereafter, but it's messed up my shoulder and keeps getting worse with time (including constant mild pain, restricted movement, tension around the shoulder and pain with sharp movements (like a slide etc.)); very callous people, I later found out that it really should have been pinned...I would recommend looking into surgery, especially if it's displaced...the thing is to catch it early...
