Broken Fender Jazz V truss rod

Hey everyone. I've lurked around here for a while, learning and researching. I need some help. I traded for a MIM Fender Jazz 5 that has a bad truss- as in broken. The nut sheered off the rod leaving about a 1/2 turn of thread. As the story goes, the neck had some bow and when I went to adjust out the relief, the nut pretty much fell out in my hand. In hindsight, I think the seller knew, but that's neither here nor there at this point. It's my problem now. Is there a way to replace the truss rod without major wood work? If not, it'll be a part out. A replacement neck is $300which is more than the whole guitar is worth.

You could just get a 5 string p mighty mite neck. I think they run about 110 on amazon

Put a Tru-Oil finish on it and you'll have a fantastic replacement neck - far better than the original - for under $200. You'll spend way more than that having the truss rod replaced, and probably close to that having it repaired.

Ive seen those kits before. the threading die alone shouldn cost more than 30 bucks.
Ive always wondered, could you not just dill the anchor out and reistall a truss rod from the anchor-end? the rod to be placed rickenbacker style, anchored with a nut.

I have used about a dozen or so mighty mite necks. Pretty good quality.

Thanks everyone. I think it just became a project guitar. I'll keep an eye out for a 35" neck and just play it. Maybe order from Warmoth. I built a tele from them and it was mighty fine...
