Double Bass Broken neck

My dog ran into my bass and it fell against the wall and cracked the neck near the neck joint. I'm taking it to the luthier today but I wanted to get some ideas about the correct way to fix it and how many hours it should take. I want to be sure that it's fixed the right and not just hobbled together.

thats a tough break. whatever happens, dont let the your guy put a dowel or screw through the button. i think that the neck may have to come out. sorry...

I agree with Kurt, the neck will need to come out. I would glue the pieces back together then put in some reinforcement dowels with the neck out. That way they are behind the button instead of through it. This shouldn't be too terribly expensive. You might want to have your luthier check the neck angle while the neck is off the body.

It's hard to see in the picture but the crack does go through the button. I've got a C-clamp on it now to hold everything together and keep it from getting worse.

The neck should come out. The crack is far in the back that its not going to need a dowel.
