i recently bought the cheapest burr grinder available on Amazon and got exactly what I paid for. The coarseness setting doesnt seem to do anything to change the grind, everything comes out super coarse.

FWIW, when we were in Rome a few years ago, the only coffee apparatus in our AirBnB was a Moka pot, and I've been hooked on it ever since. We don't even have a drip/carafe machine anymore. It's basically single (double) serve per brew, but its worth the effort.

I recently bought a moka pot and really like it. I also bought a Turkish setup but haven’t been happy yet. My daily brew is the big Chemex, 60g coffee/1000g water…

I also measure my coffee and water amounts. It's nice to have a consistently good cup every day.

I do however buy the already ground Lavazza bricks.
Buying in bean form is the next step.

French press is great, too. I’ve never tried an Aeropress.

I only buy whole bean roasted at a shop in my tiny town, so good.

I agree with the above poster, freshly ground beans is the biggest improvement one could make and should be first in a coffee journey. Even in a *gasp* drip machine!!!

Thanks to all for the coffee info. I have one last question... if you grind up a batch of coffee beans and put it in a sealed container, how long will it stay fresh? Or should it be ground fresh daily?

I only grind a cup's worth at a time. That has produced the best results in my experience.

For french press and espresso I prefer grind and brew. Less selective about drip and will go 2-3 days.
