Brubaker Brute Club

As far a pricing it is varied across the board with retailers, I was in shock when I checked the brubaker page and saw 599.00 , it could be they are adjusting price due to new Chinese factory cost to them IDK , all I can tell you is if are going to compare the brute series to others the most justifiable would be comparing the standard double cut brute to say a lakland 55-01 or 55-02 depending on pickup configuration and the brute SC5 to say a MTD ZX model I had a chance a NAMM to play a bunch of bass's and these three were in the same realm although fit and finish and initial set up on the bass's I played the brute series won out, just felt better and had a much meatier tone the finish on the back of the neck on the SC5 was absolutely the quickest of them all and all the brute bass's had a more comfortable and easy reach to the upper frets. This is just my personal opinion! The brutes just feel better in my hands . It all makes sense to me though Kevin is a really good player . And it is reflected in what he builds .

I have a question for the members of the club. I want to try a set of DR High Beams on my MJX5. Will these fit without any alterations?

I understand. I believe the new pricing for the standard Brutes according to the Brubaker site was $600 for the 4 string and $712 or so for the 5er. I'm a Brubaker fan all the way and for me a bass has to feel right and has to have "that sound". Brubakers do that very well.

Yes, but there are two considerations IF you have a 5 string.

First, the bridge does not work great with non-tapered strings. You need the jaws of life to get it in there, but it will fit.

Second, DR's are long strings and I broke the first set I put on my Brute because the outer windings were going around the post.

Again, if you have a 4 string there is no concern. But I converted mine to string through body for the B string to take care of those two issues. I believe that's the reasons Mike Lull does the same thing on his basses. It's simple to do.

Should be no problem. Mine is strung up with Fat beams.

Oh yeah, plus what bongo just said. I have the b string thru the body to compensate for length. Also, just screw the saddle forward when you install, then bring it back when you intonate.

That is a two year old page, from 2009 and the prices were for Kevin selling direct from the very first lot. Brutes probably still street around that, but you have to contact individual dealers. Our dealer network can give you a good price for sure.

For current pricing, contact either Donovan at Fretspot or Corner Music.

What strings come with the bass as is (brand, set name, gage??). I have not changed strings yet. I bought the last Brute Kevin had in stock in his shop.

I got the answer from the man himself :-)

Whatever China made strings the factory uses- they are not available yet but we will package them, working on it. I use SIT strings now on my custom stuff- 40,60,80,10,120.

As of 2011, MAP prices are $630 for a 4 string and $665 for a 5 string.

Good news for all Brubaker Brute fans. I have been corresponding with Donvan Bankhead (fretspot) and he believes he's going to sell the SC-5s for around $799. This should be in the range for all Club Members, Brubaker owners of standard, custom, and extreme basses and non-members alike, even financially challenged guys like myself :-) Donovan is still working on a final price but this is way cool.

Sorry Donovan. I hope I didn't break any rules as I try my best to be a law abiding citizen. I am very excited about adding a new Brute Single cut to my collection. Oops :-)

I was just wondering if anyone has a stock second generation brute preamp they may have taken out to upgrade to something else.If so I would be interested in it , i have been debating changing up the audere in my red brute.
