+1 As someone else mentioned, Jamareo first appeared on Diddy's "Making His Band." IIRC I believe he explained that he didn't feel he was good enough for the audition and was forced by his father to catch a bus to the gig.

Of coarse, he eventually landed the gig, beating over a dozen talented bassists and the rest is history. My point? He auditioned with other musicians and got the part. What is so lucky about that?

Tewest is not hating on Jamareo at all. He is just mentioning that being talented and getting paid is the same thing. I will just say that you have to work really hard at getting paid too. Talent is just part of it.

I'm a little confused;first you say he's a beast then you say that not only is he "lucky" but you know guy's (unnamed of course) who can run circles around him;which is it?


IMO Luck is preparation and opportunity meeting,I watched Jamerio on "Making his band" and felt that he got the "gig" (did they ever do a tour with that?) based on his potential upside which is what they stated.Now a few years later you see the results

Absolutely, I'm not playing defense lawyer here lol...

I realize you are discussing more on the point of "extremely talented people that aren't getting recognized/paid vs. extremely talented people that are getting recognized" however I'm stating that I find it kind of funny how the word "luck" gets tossed around in the context of a young musician (or other talent) landing a good gig.

I tend to believe that if you aspire to work in the entertainment industry, you need to find ways to create "luck." As you mentioned, being a talented musician is merely one aspect of finding work. So many other factors contribute to one's overall participation and payout in the industry, but I believe the one dominant quality is consistency. Ironically, its the most challenging quality to posses because as humans in today's economy, chasing wild dreams becomes less and less realistic as you grow older. But I digress...I just think that if you believe in yourself and stay consistent, regardless of what you are trying to pursue, luck will find you :D

I do know guys that can run circles around him. I'll give you names if that's what you want but you will never hear about them. They chose a more stable career. It's always someone better trust me. I still think it's luck. Or would you rather call it being at the right place at the right time. He got his shot and excelled. Not everyone gets their shot. I know a GREAT bass player that moved to LA because he realized that in order to get those gigs with Beyonce' or Alicia Keys you have to be where they are. Last time I heard, he was playing for American Idol and other big gigs out that way. It may have been a better bass player that didn't have a way to the "Making His Band" auditions. You will never know. I'm not hating on this guy because I've met him and he's very humble. That was 3 yrs ago but I'm sure he hasn't changed.

I'm not saying it's 100% luck. But it had a part in it. Let's take sports. For a team to win the Super Bowl, they not only have to be talented but be luckey somewhere during the season. Sometime during season, the fumble took a bounce in the right direction. That doesn't take away from the talent of the winning team or it's athletic players.

Some people call it luck. If you are a religious person, you may say he was blessed with the opportunity and took advantage of it.

I still think it's awesome what he did and is doing. Sure, I can play that song he played but to do that while doing a dance routine is crazy. There's no way I can do that. Did you notice that the guitar player didn't take part in the dancing? That shows how talented bass players are. LOL

I have to agree, Jamareo killed it - with a P-bass - while doing every step of the choreography!! Bruno's band had that "yeah we played 200+ gigs last year" sound and vibe, just hot and popping, and the production was awesome, the lighting queues and everything were perfect. I too think it was the best performance on the show.

Plus I gotta love someone who unabashedly gives JB major props making it big in today's pop music climate. I wish his single/performance would have won the Grammy, I think it blow's Adele's away.

All the times I've seen him he's always playing a P-bass. I'm not a P-bass guy but when he plays it, it just sounds so sweet. I think that has to do with the player.

I still can't give over the dancing part. That was awesome. All while not messing anything and still throwing in a few licks. You don't see that often. Actually, I've never seen musician play all that while dancing. I'm not talking about some little simple bass line but the stuff he was playing last night. To really hear him, put on some headphone and what the performance again. I've watched it like 10 times just today.

Better is a relative term,part of the entire process of doing those kind of gig's is putting yourself in a position to succeed.The Amazing bassist that you know who choose a more stable career made a lifestyle choice and there's nothing wrong with that but saying not everybody get's their shot isn't really accurate,everybody doesn't put themselves in a position to get their shot is often the case.

Not a huge Bruno Mars fan- actually, I like him just fine until I hear his songs. But that kicked butt and you have to respect a young artist who calls out who he's stealing from! Yelling "James Brown" 4 times before copying his moves is a pretty classy way to turn all his younger fans on to where he's borrowing from. That bass player impressed the heck out of me. I mean, for real, he was killing.

We can agree to disagree, but I don't attribute Jamareo's situation to luck. He had the talent and drive to get it done to win Making His Band and he obviously had what it took to catch Bruno Mars' attention. It's not about playing circles around other musicians with your bass-it's about laying down the groove with your bass. He put it down last night!

A Groove is a Terrible Thing to Waste! :cool:
