At the risk of drifting away from a celebration of OP's gorgeous new bass, I would point out that after ~28 pages in this thread there's still no consensus over which type of case is more appropriate for an expensive boutique instrument.

That's weird. In 20+ years of doing this I have never put a mark on a bass while it sat in a gig bag. I have put a TON of scars on my jazz bass while in action.

If something catastrophic happens that would damage my bass in the bag, chances are the same event would have toasted a hard shell case as well.
